First graders worked hard in their classrooms learning about patterns. They then used that skill to write pattern books. To write the books, students wrote sentences that all begin the same but have different endings. The theme for these books was the season, fall. Once in the computer lab, the students learned how to log into the computers using their first and last names and their student ID #'s, which is also used to take out library books and to order lunch. Using the program KidPix, students began the first page of the Pattern book with a template that was filled in with information on fall and completed with a picture drawn by the students. Students then saved their project to the shared server. The second page of their pattern book was completed without a template applying the skills learned from the first book. Right before Thanksgiving, students in first grade, continued working on their skills in KidPix and completed a template to share what they were thankful for. They could choose a picture of a harvest, a pilgrim or the infamous turkey. Using the text tool, they typed their thoughts, and then used the fill bucket to color the picture. Mrs. Weber printed the students' pictures which were taken home and shared with families.
